On Friday, after 10 months, the Schools of Assam reopened for primary students in a phased manner following tight COVID-19 protocols, officials said. On the first day of the new year, classroom teaching begins for students enrolled in classes one through five, while their attendance is not compulsory and relies on parental permission.
About 50% of students who were full of excitement visited schools wearing masks and before entering classes, officials said, they used sanitiser. For the reopening of campuses, a stringent safety policy has been placed in place, which involves the routine sanitisation of classrooms. The district management will track the situation closely.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, students from classes one, two and three will attend kindergarten, while those enrolled in classes four and five will go to their schools on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Elementary-level classes will be held between 9.45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. with a half-an-hour lunch break from 12.15 p.m., officials said, noting that children under the age of five will not attend a half-an-hour lunch break.
Starting in September, phased classes were held in both government and private educational establishments for students from class six onwards, and from Friday they began attending classes in a regular way.
For students who do not wish to attend physical courses, the online style of education will continue and it is applicable to all private and coaching institutions as well, officials said.
According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) provided by the Education Department, teaching and non-teaching personnel will have to undergo the COVID-19 examination every 30 days and there will be no cultural or other functions in schools until further government orders are released.
Since March 29th, educational institutions in Assam have been closed. Starting on December 15, hostels for students in boarding schools, colleges and universities in classes 10 and 12 began running according to state education department directives.
Colleges, universities, technical colleges, polytechnics and other technical establishments will usually run in compliance with the relevant authorities’ academic calendar and guidance.
